The College of Nursing at the University of Baghdad held a defense of the doctoral dissertation by researcher Haitham Muhammad Jawad Obaid, titled \u201cA Comparison of the Effects of Listening to Pleasant Sounds and the Benson Relaxation Technique on Anxiety in Patients Scheduled for Cardiac Catheterization: A Quasi-Experimental Study,\u201d under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Tahsin Rajab Muhammad.<\/span><\/p>\n

The study primarily aimed to identify and compare the effects of listening to pleasant sounds and applying the Benson relaxation technique on reducing anxiety levels among patients scheduled for cardiac catheterization, as well as to evaluate the relationship between the effectiveness of these two interventions and the demographic characteristics of the sample.<\/span><\/p>\n

The study\u2019s results and conclusions showed that the Benson relaxation technique and listening to pleasant sounds have a clear, positive effect on reducing anxiety and stress levels among patients undergoing catheterization procedures in cardiac units.<\/span><\/p>\n

Based on the research findings, the study recommended the adoption of the Benson relaxation technique and pleasant sounds as non-pharmacological nursing interventions within cardiac units and waiting rooms, as they are safe, inexpensive adjunctive therapies that patients and healthcare providers can easily and effectively apply to achieve psychological and physical calm.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following an extensive academic discussion, the researcher\u2019s efforts culminated in the thesis receiving a \u201cVery Good\u201d grade.<\/span><\/p>\n

The findings of this study align with the Sustainable Development Goals that the College of Nursing at the University of Baghdad seeks to promote, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), through the development of psychological and nursing care strategies for cardiac patients and the improvement of the quality of health services provided in treatment facilities.<\/span><\/p>\n
