<\/p>\nThe College of Nursing at the University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the Mobilization Forces Medical Directorate and the College of Al-Sibtain, hosted a specialized workshop titled \u201cMeasures to Prevent the Risk of Heatstroke\u201d as part of the activities of the Mobilization Forces Scientific Forum, held in the college\u2019s museum hall. The workshop saw a strong turnout of academics, specialists, and students, and was presented by Professor Dr. Wissam Jabbar Qasim and Lecturer Dr. Intisar Muzaffar Ouda.<\/p>\n
The workshop\u2019s primary objective was to highlight the precautionary measures and health protocols that must be followed to prevent heat exhaustion and heatstroke, in light of the climatic challenges and the sharp rise in temperatures expected during the \u201cArba\u2019een\u201d pilgrimage, to ensure the safety of the millions of visitors as well as the medical and support staff.<\/p>\n
The workshop produced a set of important scientific and practical recommendations and outcomes, with attendees emphasizing the need to intensify educational campaigns for visitors on how to recognize the initial symptoms of heatstroke\u2014such as dizziness, headache, dry skin, and excessive sweating\u2014and how to address them immediately, They also emphasized the need for personal preventive measures, such as drinking sufficient amounts of water and electrolyte-replacement fluids, avoiding walking in direct sunlight during peak hours, and using umbrellas and loose-fitting cotton clothing, in addition to the importance of coordinating efforts between mass-care medical teams and volunteer academic staff to distribute informational brochures and provide rapid first-aid supplies for cases of fainting along the visitors\u2019 walking routes.<\/p>\n
This workshop aligns with the College of Nursing\u2019s vision of community service and reaffirms its academic and leadership role, as it directly contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 3 on good health and well-being, by promoting preventive healthcare, protecting the lives of visitors, and reducing health emergencies associated with extreme weather conditions, Goal 4 on quality education by disseminating academic knowledge, applying scientific research to solve pressing field and community problems, and training students and medical staff, and Goal 17, which calls for partnerships to achieve the Goals\u2014clearly embodied in this joint and effective collaboration between government academic institutions, specialized health institutions, and executive and field agencies to provide the best humanitarian and health services to the community.<\/p>\n
