The Fundamentals of Nursing Department at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized two educational field trips for first-year students to Al-Karama Teaching Hospital, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Iyad Majid Musa and Assistant Professor Dr. Masra Abdullah Najm, faculty members of the department. The aim of these visits was to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the role of the nurse leader in nursing administration, and to hone their skills in making critical decisions related to nursing care, as well as to introduce them to the latest trends in medicine and nursing, and the importance of rapid intervention to save the lives of patients and avoid potential complications.<\/p>\n
The program for both visits included an exploratory field tour of various vital departments within the hospital, starting with the internal medicine and surgical emergency departments\u2014which serve as the first line of defense in handling critical cases\u2014 through to the medical and surgical wards, providing students with a valuable opportunity to observe firsthand the workflow in these vital departments and interact directly with senior medical and nursing staff.<\/p>\n
This educational initiative is part of a series of field visits planned by the Fundamentals of Nursing Department to enhance students\u2019 theoretical and practical skills. Through these activities, the college aims to empower students and equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to accurately distinguish between different medical conditions, make accurate diagnoses, and provide optimal medical and nursing interventions to preserve patients\u2019 lives and minimize complications that could lead to a deterioration in their health, thereby directly contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 4 on quality education.<\/p>\n
