The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop titled “Negotiation and Persuasion Skills in the Workplace,” attended by a group of professors and staff members seeking to enhance their professional performance. The workshop aimed to improve participants\u2019 abilities in the art of influence and to handle various administrative and professional situations with flexibility and intelligence, while emphasizing that negotiation is a comprehensive skill that is not limited to mere give-and-take, but rather depends on a deep understanding of the needs of the various parties and the ability to build bridges of trust and find innovative solutions that strike a balance between conflicting interests.<\/p>\n
The workshop focused on enabling participants to understand the stages of the negotiation process, starting with thorough preparation, information gathering, and setting strategic goals, through to effectively managing dialogue and reaching satisfactory agreements. It also highlighted the importance of persuasion as a fundamental pillar of successful negotiation through the use of logical arguments, accurate data, and psychological techniques that influence others\u2019 decisions, in addition to developing nonverbal communication skills such as understanding body language, the ability to listen effectively, and asking intelligent questions to build positive relationships based on mutual respect.<\/p>\n
The workshop concluded by training participants on how to accurately analyze negotiation situations and distinguish between the parties\u2019 apparent positions and their underlying interests, thereby helping them adopt creative solutions that avoid direct conflict. This event is part of the college\u2019s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 on quality education through the development of staff skills, and Goal 8 on decent work and economic growth by enhancing communication and performance within government institutions.<\/p>\n
