The Human Rights Unit at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop titled \u201cHighlighting the Human Dimension of the Nursing Profession through World Health Day Activities,\u201d presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Isen Kamal in the presence of a group of faculty members, staff, and students.The workshop aimed to raise awareness of the core values of nursing and to reinforce the humanity of care through practical steps, including effective communication, psychological support, respect for diversity, and kind words, which serve as a vital bridge between science and healing.<\/p>\n
The workshop addressed the pivotal role of youth in building modern society as the largest demographic and the driving force for reform and change, emphasizing that World Health Day provides a unique opportunity for university students to highlight the role of nursing as a fundamental pillar of successful health systems and to transform health slogans into tangible humanitarian actions that serve society. The workshop also highlighted \u201cthe power of empathy\u201d as an element inseparable from scientific competence in the practice of the profession<\/p>\n
The workshop concluded that empowering young nursing graduates is a strategic step, as they are leaders of change and health ambassadors. It produced a series of important recommendations emphasizing the need to educate the public about the importance of the human aspect of healthcare and to change misconceptions about the profession by highlighting its noble values as a specialized and leadership-oriented profession, in addition to harnessing the energy of young people to support the health sector through innovative methods and organizing awareness campaigns, photo exhibitions, and short plays that highlight the humanitarian sacrifices of nurses.<\/p>\n
The recommendations also called for launching field initiatives to visit hospitals and deliver messages of thanks to nursing staff, while leveraging social media platforms to share inspiring stories and awareness-raising content that elevate the status of nurses in the public consciousness. These activities are part of the college\u2019s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 on good health and well-being, and Goal 16 on justice and strong institutions, by embedding human rights principles in healthcare practice<\/p>\n
