The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop titled ” Safety Principles and Infection Control in Nursing Practice,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Masra Abdullah Najm, a faculty member in the Fundamentals of Nursing Department. The workshop was held in Lecture Hall No. 1 at the college and was attended by a group of distinguished professors and a large number of first-year students eager to enhance their clinical and preventive skills.
\nThe workshop primarily aimed to improve the competence of first-year students by reinforcing the concept of occupational safety principles and their importance in breaking the chain of infection transmission through the strict application of standard precautions at all times. The lecture also focused on familiarizing participants with the obstacles that may hinder the implementation of these practices in the healthcare setting and how to overcome them using scientific methods, while preparing students to handle sharp instruments safely and professionally within hospitals and enabling them to undergo continuous training on infection control protocols to mitigate health risks associated with the profession.
\nThe workshop concluded with a series of important recommendations emphasizing the need to raise awareness of adherence to occupational safety principles through intensive practical training, and encouraging students to consistently apply these rules both inside and outside the clinical setting so that they become part of their professional behavior, while emphasizing that adherence to these principles is the fundamental guarantee for creating a safe work environment that effectively contributes to reducing healthcare-associated injuries and infections.
\nThis workshop is part of a series of scientific activities organized by the Continuing Education Unit to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 on good health and well-being by ensuring the provision of safe nursing care, and Goal 4, which concerns quality education by equipping students with specialized skills that enhance the quality of academic and professional performance in the health sector.<\/p>\n
