The Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Fundamentals of Nursing Department at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized academic workshop titled “Homosexuality from an Islamic Perspective and Ways to Address It,” presented by Prof. Dr. Hakima Shaker Hassan in the Adult Nursing Laboratory, with active participation from graduate students (Master\u2019s)<\/p>\n
The workshop aimed to shed light on the legal and ethical perspective regarding this phenomenon, emphasizing its absolute prohibition and the consensus of Islamic jurisprudential schools on the impermissibility of such acts, considering them a deviation from sound human nature, while citing the story of the people of Lot and the punishment that befell them as a result of their practice of this deviance. The workshop also reviewed the destructive consequences of these crimes, which warrant discretionary punishment under Islamic law due to their serious repercussions on the individual, the family, and society, while simultaneously emphasizing that Islam opens the door to repentance and reform for those whose intentions to return to the right path are sincere.<\/p>\n
At the conclusion of its proceedings, the workshop issued a set of fundamental recommendations, focusing on the importance of intellectual and educational fortification through the dissemination of religious and moral values and the reinforcement of sound human nature within the family and school, as well as the necessity of raising awareness about serious health and psychological risks, such as sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS and syphilis. The recommendations also called for addressing deviant tendencies as a condition requiring spiritual and psychological treatment rather than as an \u201cidentity\u201d or \u201cright,\u201d while emphasizing the need to counter media and international attempts to normalize this phenomenon and to uphold national legislation rooted in religion, while balancing warnings against such acts with offering advice and assistance to individuals to help them overcome their struggles.<\/p>\n
This workshop is organized as part of the college\u2019s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 on good health and well-being, by ensuring healthy lifestyles and protecting society from practices that threaten health and social well-being, thereby ensuring the building of a healthy society capable of fulfilling its development responsibilities<\/p>\n
