The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Nursing organized a workshop titled “Laboratory Safety Basics and Procedures,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Iyad Majid Musa, Assistant Professor Dr. Tahsin Rajab Muhammad, and Instructor Basma Amer Naji, who are faculty members in the Fundamentals of Nursing Department. The workshop was held in Hall No. 1 and attended by a large group of first-year students and a select group of faculty members, with the aim of enhancing the competence of undergraduate students and familiarizing them with the protocols that ensure a safe learning environment for all<\/p>\n
The workshop included a comprehensive review of safety rules and raising awareness of potential hazards within laboratories and how to avoid them, with a focus on practical skills in handling laboratory tools and materials and using medical devices and personal protective equipment in a scientifically correct manner. The session also included practical training on how to use fire extinguishers in emergencies, highlighting the utmost importance of developing proactive safety plans to mitigate any risks that students or faculty may face during laboratory work.<\/p>\n
The workshop concluded with recommendations emphasizing that adherence to safety standards is a professional and ethical necessity incumbent upon the college to protect the academic community, stressing that increased awareness and continuous training are the fundamental guarantees for reducing laboratory accidents, as the value of scientific knowledge is only fully realized when it is practiced responsibly. This event is part of a series of continuing education activities adopted by the college to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 on quality education and Goal 8, which focuses on promoting economic growth and providing decent work by creating a healthy and safe work environment.<\/p>\n
