The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop titled “Effective Communication with Patients and the Healthcare Team,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Masra Abdullah Najm, a faculty member in the Fundamentals of Nursing Department. The workshop targeted a large group of first-year students in Lecture Hall No. 1 at the college, aiming to enhance their professional skills early in their academic careers<\/p>\n
The workshop addressed key themes focused on establishing the concept of effective communication and its critical importance in improving the quality of healthcare, while highlighting communication barriers within the clinical setting and ways to skillfully overcome them. The sessions also included practical exercises to develop students\u2019 verbal and nonverbal communication skills and prepare them for clinical training in hospitals through simulations of real-life situations that enable them to build a solid therapeutic relationship based on mutual trust and respect with patients and their colleagues on the healthcare team<\/p>\n
The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations emphasizing the need for students to commit to effective communication skills during practical training periods, urging them to continuously practice these skills both within and outside the clinical setting while taking into account individual differences among patients, as well as stressing the importance of collaboration among healthcare team members to ensure the best possible care is provided. This initiative is part of the college\u2019s ongoing activities aimed at empowering emerging nursing professionals, thereby directly contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 on good health and well-being for the community<\/p>\n
