The Continuing Education Unit at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled “Intellectual Extremism and its Role in the Growth of Terrorism,” presented by Professor Dr. Hakima Shaker Hassan in the presence of doctoral students at the Adult Nursing Laboratory at the faculty.<\/p>\n
The workshop aimed to provide a comprehensive definition of the concept of intellectual extremism and analyze the psychological and social factors that contribute to its emergence, highlighting the proportional relationship between intellectual isolation and the growth of terrorist phenomena in societies. The workshop also discussed the strategic mechanisms used to counter extremism by promoting rational dialogue and protecting young people from being drawn behind destructive ideologies that threaten civil peace.<\/p>\n
The workshop concluded with a set of fundamental recommendations that emphasized the need to strengthen intellectual security through systematic education and continuous awareness-raising to protect minds from extremist ideas and to correct and refute misconceptions scientifically and logically, while emphasizing the need to activate the complementary role of the family, educational and religious institutions, and the media in instilling the values of moderation and balance. The recommendations also called for the development of legislation and laws to deter intellectual terrorism, thereby ensuring the protection of the social fabric and providing a safe and stable environment for future generations, free from extremism and radicalism.<\/p>\n
This workshop is part of a series of activities organized by the Continuing Education Unit in collaboration with the Nursing Fundamentals Branch to promote cultural and social awareness among graduate students, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 10 on reducing inequalities and Goal 16 on peace, justice, and strong institutions, as combating extremism is a fundamental pillar for ensuring social justice, protecting human rights, and reducing the gaps caused by hatred and discrimination, ultimately leading to the building of a cohesive and sustainable society where tolerance and prosperity prevail for all its members.<\/p>\n
