The Women’s Affairs Unit at the college of Nursing, University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the Adult Nursing Branch, organized a specialized workshop entitled “Cyber Awareness Equals Academic Security,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Wafa Abdul Ali Hatab in the Continuing Education Hall, attended by a group of students from different stages. The workshop addressed a comprehensive concept of cyber awareness as a necessary contemporary skill and the first line of defense to protect scientific efforts from digital risks that threaten the academic community. The lecture reviewed the most prominent security, ethical, and technical challenges facing students, from simple assignments to graduation research<\/span><\/p>\n

The session witnessed extensive interaction from the audience, as students were surveyed and expressed their genuine concerns regarding the responsibility of protecting patient data and private survey results, as well as their anxiety about losing research efforts due to sudden technical malfunctions. The discussion also touched on the confusion students face in dealing with artificial intelligence tools and how to use them without compromising scientific integrity, as well as the difficulty of distinguishing between reliable sources and phishing attempts. Participants agreed that mitigating these risks lies in adopting conscious digital practices, activating regular backups, and complying with intellectual property laws. The workshop concluded that everyone is responsible for information and privacy, and that acquired digital skills are a fundamental pillar for refining academic character and ensuring the integrity of scientific outputs<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThis workshop is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education) by promoting digital culture and technological skills among students, and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) by supporting the move towards a secure and sustainable digital environment that supports scientific research and innovation<\/span><\/p>\n
