The college of Nursing at the University of Baghdad, in coordination with the Faculty of Oil and Gas Engineering in Kirkuk, organized a scientific seminar entitled: “Healthy lifestyles and the risk of cancer.” As part of efforts to promote health awareness
\nAssistant Professor Dr. Aysen Kamal Mohammed Nouri from the Faculty of Nursing\/University of Baghdad participated as a keynote speaker via video conference. Also participating in the seminar from Kirkuk were Ms. Nevin Mufaq Mohammed (Head of the Psychological Counseling Unit), Ms. Dunya Juma Khalifa (Head of the Women’s Empowerment Unit), and Ms. Kuljan Yavuz Habib (Head of the Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Safety and Security Unit).<\/p>\n
During the seminar, Dr. Aysen Kamal addressed the most prominent unhealthy lifestyles that increase the likelihood of cancer, such as an unbalanced diet, lack of physical activity, smoking, and exposure to environmental pollutants. She emphasized the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle that includes proper nutrition, regular physical activity, and regular screening for early detection of cancer.
\nThe workshop aimed to highlight the risk factors that lead to cancer, including unhealthy habits and behaviors, family history, advancing age, complications from chronic diseases, and the surrounding environment (such as exposure to chemicals in industrial areas).<\/p>\n
The seminar concluded with key recommendations for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and reducing the risk of cancer, including: Avoiding fried foods, fats, and unhealthy industrial products as much as possible, and limiting consumption of processed and sugary foods Ensuring intake of healthy fats (such as fish, nuts, and olive oil) Eat foods rich in antioxidants that reduce inflammation (such as blueberries, tomatoes, and green vegetables). Adapt your lifestyle to reduce stressors and avoid using toxic substances at home.<\/p>\n
This seminar is part of a series of activities organized by the Deanship of the College of Nursing to promote optimal health in the community, and is directly aligned with the third Sustainable Development Goal (Good Health and Well-being). By raising awareness of healthy lifestyles and reducing the risk of non-communicable diseases such as cancer, the college contributes to ensuring adherence to healthy lifestyles and reducing the consumption of harmful substances, thereby supporting the building of a healthier and more sustainable society.<\/p>\n
