Under the patronage of the Dean of the college\u00a0 of Nursing, Prof. Dr. Wissam Jabbar Qasim, the scientific departments, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit and the Student Activities Unit at the faculty, organized a comprehensive and distinctive awareness event on the occasion of Pink October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month).
\nThe event included a scientific debate between third-year students from the morning and evening programs. The debate addressed intensive scientific and interactive questions about the causes of breast cancer, methods of early detection, treatment, and prevention. The competition witnessed high interaction and enthusiasm, and ended with the morning study group winning by one point, reflecting the spirit of fair competition and scientific benefit.
\nAn art exhibition was held for third-year students, featuring wonderful paintings and sculptures that embodied hope in life and the importance of early detection, and expressed strength and determination to recover for survivors. The activity also included a display of models showing the steps to prevent the disease, handicrafts, awareness brochures, and distributions and paintings made by the participating students.
\nThe event expanded to include additional educational and inspirational aspects An awareness lecture was presented by fourth-year students from the Mental Health Nursing Department, providing valuable information about the disease and ways to prevent it. Guidance lecture Two master’s students from the Adult Nursing Department gave a guidance lecture that included a practical explanation of the steps for self-examination to detect breast cancer.
\nA breast cancer survivor was also invited to share her moving experience of her treatment journey, emphasizing the important role of psychological support and the support of family and friends in overcoming the disease and achieving a full recovery.
\nA documentary video was shown on the role of the College of Nursing\/University of Baghdad in spreading cultural awareness about breast cancer.
\nAt the end of the event, the Dean of the College expressed his thanks and appreciation to the participating students and the organizing branches and units for their outstanding efforts in organizing these activities aimed at promoting health awareness. Certificates of appreciation and commemorative gifts were also distributed to the two participating groups in recognition of their efforts.
\nThis academic awareness event is a vital contribution to achieving the third Sustainable Development Goal, “Good Health and Well-being.” By promoting a culture of early detection and prevention of non-communicable diseases such as breast cancer, the College of Nursing is committed to educating a generation of health-conscious and educated nurses who can contribute to reducing premature mortality rates and raising health awareness in the community.<\/p>\n
