The college\u00a0 of Nursing at Baghdad University discussed the master’s thesis entitled “Patient Activation and Self-Management of Type 2 Diabetes” by student Ali Enayat Abdul Rumi, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Iyad Majid Moussa in the Faculty’s Skills Hall.<\/p>\n
The study aimed to assess the pivotal relationship between the degree of “patient activation”, i.e. the extent of their knowledge, ability, and active participation in managing their health condition, and their commitment to self-management measures to control type 2 diabetes. The results of the study showed a strong positive correlation; a higher level of patient activation leads directly to improved self-care behaviors, which translates into better health outcomes and effective disease control.<\/p>\n
The study recommended the need to adopt a practical and innovative approach to patient support, including the integration of patient activation assessment into routine healthcare procedures in hospitals and health centers. The development of a mobile application that enables patients to self-assess their level of activation, which encourages them to be continuously involved in the management of their health condition, and contributes to avoiding future complications of the disease.<\/p>\n
The researcher received a grade of “Very Good”. This study has the added significance of being directly aligned with the third Sustainable Development Goal “Good Health and Wellbeing”. By focusing on empowering patients with diabetes, one of the most prevalent non-communicable diseases.<\/p>\n
