The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis entitled “The Impact of Cancer Health Knowledge on Lung Cancer Screening Beliefs of Residents Near Oil Refineries in Basra Governorate” by student Raghad Kazem Rasen under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Essen Kamal Nouri in the college’s large hall.
\nThe thesis aimed to promote health awareness among those who are at high risk of developing lung cancer due to pollution caused by gas emissions from oil refineries. The study concluded that there is a significant effect of health awareness on individuals’ beliefs about the importance of lung cancer screening.
\nThe thesis came up with a set of recommendations, namely the need to design and organize health awareness programs and campaigns, in addition to conducting routine and free screenings for the population for early detection of lung cancer.
\nThese efforts contribute to achieving sustainable development by addressing the negative health effects of environmental pollution, which is consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 3 “Good health and well-being”, by ensuring a healthy life for all and promoting well-being at all ages.
